It is so ...I have really enjoyed reading this post. It is so wonderfully reflective. The UK also has a very linear rigid national curriculum, probably not unlike the one you describe for the US. But from my observations, the most inspiring and effective teachers are those who start from a learner persepctive rather than a curriculum perspective.
